Song Of The Week.

Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani

This week –
Song: Early Winter
Artiste: Gwen Stefani
Album: The Sweet Escape

A hit in the late 2007/early 2008, and with Christmas knocking on the door around the corner, this sad autumn love song got the rebound and went on to head straight back into my heart, and throw it all about like a dirty green tennis ball.

Music critics alike:
– Digital Spy
, “…the most affecting moment of Stefani’s solo career to date”;
– Pitchfolk Media
. “… proves that Stefani still has the ability to elevate an otherwise ordinary rock song to another level”;
The Guardian refers the song as “stylish”;
The New York Times called it one of the album’s most ‘tuneful’ tracks;
PopMatters noted it as a highlight of the album and compared its vulnerability to No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak”;
NME, “… one of the few potential hits” from The Sweet Escape;
Entertainment Weekly, “majestic power ballad”;
Slant Magazine compared it to songs previously written with Tony Kanal, stated “… less forced and much less self-conscious” than other songs;
John Murphy of MusicOHM called the lyrics some of the best written by Gwen.

The video, once again, cause I so love it:
